Swirling around the veep-talk are these nuggets:
- From the LA Times: Democratic political strategist Kevin Lampe spoke before a crowd in Stockholm to which he said “he did not believe that Obama would choose Clinton or, for that matter, any other woman as his VP candidate. Lampe’s reasoning, according to people who attended the dinner in Stockholm, was that it would antagonize Clinton and her supporters if Obama passed her over and picked another woman instead. Those comments caused a good measure of consternation, partly because guests thought they were getting the word from a full-fledged member of Team Obama. The invitation identified Lampe as a ‘campaign advisor.’ ” He isn’t.
- Also on the blog is a story about a Facebook group called “100,000 strong against Evan Bayh for VP.”
- In a viral Web WTF moment, a blogger for WBZ in Boston suggests John Kerry is a viable candidate for veep. {Cue music: Let’s Do The Time Warp Again…}
- Andy Ostroy over at The Huffington Post says the perfect retort to the fear mongering likely to be flung from the GOP camp is to select a 4-star general as Obama’s running mate. His suggestions: Wesley Clark, Colin Powell, Eric Shinseki or Anthony Zinni.
- Mark Mercer over at BloggerNews.net thinks Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is a shoo-in for the choice. Why? His reasons include the fact that the former Republican won two landslide elections; “It would energize women voters and attract the attention of blue collar voters”; “It would help neutralize Hillary. She has already arranged to have her name put up for a roll call. (It would be a ‘catharsis’ for women voters). It might also be chaotic. An 11th hour surprise from Team Clinton would hardly be a surprise”; and “The fact that Sebelius is unknown to most of the country would be an advantage in this case. The reason? It would guarantee large scale media coverage–massive free publicity–as the press scrambles to help introduce her to a public that has heard almost nothing about her or her impressive accomplishments.”
